Dr. Olumuyiwa Igbalajobi, a native of Efon Alaaye, Ekiti State, Nigeria, holds a Ph.D. in Microbiology from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany. He also earned a master’s degree from Daejeon University in South Korea and a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria. His academic journey spans four continents—Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America—during which he secured over $1 million in scholarships, showcasing his global academic prowess. Having left Nigeria 11 years ago with just $100, courtesy of a fully funded scholarship for his master’s degree, Dr. Igbalajobi was inspired to create Scholarships Cafe—an AI-powered platform that helps students find scholarships, easing their path to funding. The platform’s impact is profound, reaching users in over 190 countries, helping over 60,000 students, and facilitating more than $3 billion in awards. As a strong advocate for access to equitable education, Dr. Igbalajobi’s efforts have led to notable changes, such as the University of Texas, Austin, and the University of Alberta waiving English proficiency requirements for applicants from English-speaking African countries. Dr. Igbalajobi is currently a lecturer at the University of British Columbia in Canada.
